Layoffs are looming very large at City Hall.
Barring a last-minute reprieve from Harrisburg, Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter intends to send out thousands of layoff notices on Friday, a move that would force the closure of libraries, recreation centers, and other departments in early October.
In all, three thousand pink slips would be issued, affecting one out of every seven workers.
Managing director Camille Barnett (in file photo at right) says department heads have completed their lists of who would lose their jobs:
"They are preparing individual letters to people, to be sent both by mail as well delivered in person on Friday."
