Failure to get a state grant, and to raise funds privately, have prompted organizers of this year's Columbus Day parade in Philadelphia to cancel the popular event.
"There is not a 2009 Columbus Day parade in Philadelphia."
That's the grim news from parade organizer Kathleen Murray. She says the parade committee was unable to receive a $40,000 state grant because their internal bookkeeping is not in order.
And she says internal strife derailed efforts to raise the total $55,000 cost through donations:
