Federal Stimulus $$ Will Improve Schuylkill Bike Path

After a ceremonial bike-to-work ride this morning, Mayor Nutter announced several improvements that will make Philadelphia more bike-friendly, including a bridge over a CSX railroad track that runs along the Schuylkill river banks.
All told, the city is receiving more than $17 million in federal stimulus to fill in gaps along the Schuylkill River Trail.
Sarah Clark Stuart, who authored the application, is campaign director for the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia:
"This will add, going southward, a beautiful boardwalk from Locust Street to the South Street Bridge."
And remember the friction a few years ago created when CSX decided to block to crossing of the Schuylkill River path at 25th and Locust Streets. Stuart says this project will address that:
