After 4 Years, 'School of the Future' Mired in Mediocrity

Philadelphia's "School of the Future" opened with national fanfare four years ago. But as its first senior class prepares to graduate, district officials say it's falling short of its ambitious promise.
Some members of the senior class at the School of the Future are finding their reading and math skills are lacking. All of the schoolwork at the Microsoft-designed school in Parkside is done on laptops.
Parent Ivy Dixon told the School Reform Commission that's not necessarily a good thing:
"They don't have any writing skills, because Word spell-checks everything -- grammar-checks everything."
