Council Hammers Out Budget Plan

City Council says it now has a balanced budget, with approval today of a plan that includes a temporary property tax hike of nearly ten percent. The mayor says it's not balanced enough, and he's still pushing for a soda tax.
One year after Council adamantly refused to raise property taxes, they voted to do exactly that -- with initial approval of a two-year property tax hike of 9.9 percent. Council says that and other measures, including a tax on some tobacco products, results in a balanced budget.
