Singer Lena Horne Dies at age 92
Another talent has vanished off the scene…another legend has gone behind the clouds…another artist has said adieu….well, we have lost the legendary classy singer with melodious voice Lena Horne, who died at the age of 92 in New York.
Reviling the chauvinism, Horne who touched the heights of success and gained the superstardom in her career, has passed away at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday (9th May).
Lena not only showed her prowess in the field of singing, that was her actual talent, but also showcased her histrionics in the creative arena of acting. Draped with whopping sex appeal and a beauty to rave about, Lena Horne was the center of attraction wherever she used to go. Even her sexy-seductive voice seemed to be overshadowed by her beauty.
She touched every genre of the music ranging from Jazz to Blue. The tracks like The Lady is a Tramp’, ‘Bewitched’, ‘Bothered’ and Bewildered’ are the ones still are listened and hummed around by the music aficionados.
Lena had been the victim of racism due to her being black. Although she was ethnically black but her skin was light-colored this is why many of her playmates in her childhood used to say that she had a white father. She was also coined ‘the Star of Jamaica’ in 1957. The music critics of the time and even the lyricists used to call her a real gem of the music scene.
Although she was much successful, nonetheless she used to be much upset about the public humiliation being a black in the industry.
Born in Brooklyn on June 30th 1917, Lena Horne would always be in the hearts of music lovers
