The owner of an Upper Darby bar has filed a libel suit against township police superintendent Michael Chitwood. The suit comes after comments Chitwood made about the "Cheers" bar, at 69th and Market Streets.
Robert Herdelin brought four Philadelphia nuns to the Upper Darby police station as part of his counterattack to remarks that Chitwood made about the owner of the Cheers bar. Herdelin says Chitwood was wrong in labeling him a criminal and a slumlord.
