A Yeadon Borough councilman was ordered removed from office today by a Delaware County judge.
Terry A. McGirth was "disqualified from holding an office of trust or profit," Common Pleas Judge George A. Pagano ruled.
In November 2007, McGirth ran for a council seat and won. At the time, his opponents and media reports revealed that he had been convicted in Chester County and served time for embezzling $100,000 from a previous employer.
Under state law, a person with a felony record may seek elective office, but may not hold elected office if elected.
The Delaware County District Attorney sought to have McGirth ousted after complaints were filed.
