Funding for Temple University has cleared a roadblock in the Pennsylvania state legislature. Without it, officials had threatened a 45-percent tuition hike.
The $175-million budget appropriation that now has won preliminary approval had been held hostage by state representative John Taylor, of Port Richmond. He was upset about the closing of Northeastern Hospital in his district by its owner, Temple Health.
But now, Taylor says, he likes what he's hearing about plans for the site:
