Police Search Schuylkill River for Girl, 9
by KYW's Hadas Kuznits and Matt Leon
Philadelphia police have transitioned from rescue mission to recovery after a nine-year-old girl who was pushed into the Schuylkill River and swept away by a strong current. She is believed to have drowned.
Lt. John Walker says the girl was playing with seven other children by the water near near 51st Street and Grays Ferry Avenue in the city's southwest on Tuesday night.
Around 8pm, Walker says one of the boys pushed the girl into the river as a joke, but it couldn't have come at a worse time as heavy rain was moving into the area which intensified the current.
