The new head of Philadelphia's newly merged parks and recreation system is grimly tackling a task he never signed up for: preparing for the possible closure of all parks and recreation centers.
Mike DeBerardinis, the newly installed commissioner of Parks and Recreation (in file photo above), says the first effects of the budget crisis will be felt at libraries.
He says all city libraries could close by October 2nd as part of the mayor's "doomsday" budget that he hopes is never needed.
