Officials of the union that represents Philadelphia firefighters and battalion chiefs are concerned about yet more fire department cuts because of ongoing budget problems at City Hall.
Forty-six of 51 battalion chiefs have signed a letter -- hand delivered to the mayor, members of City Council, and fire commissioner Lloyd Ayers -- contending that it would be "unwise and unsafe" to cut 22 battalion chief communications technician positions (see related story).
Union leader Bill Gault (at lectern in photo):
"When safety is on the line, you got to cover all of your options."
