Police chiefs in Montgomery County, Pa. got their first look on Tuesday at a county plan that would dramatically change the 911 emergency call system.
The county says it needs to tighten its belt, so it’s come up with a plan to consolidate the 911 system by sending all calls to the main county system.
There are 13 municipalities that have their own dispatching systems subsidized by the county, to the tune of about $1 million per year. But now, if they want to continue with a separate system, it will cost them.
