Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey was on local television on Wednesday morning, explaining his plan for the city's share of federal stimulus money announced the previous day by Vice President Biden.
On Tuesday, Biden announced that $1 billion in federal stimulus money would be doled out to about a thousand police departments across the country. Philadelphia is one of those departments.
So how will Philadelphia use the money? Will it be used to retain officers or hire new ones? One of the federal requirements is that the local government will pay for the fourth year of a new officer's salary after the feds pay for the first three.
