A Montgomery County, Pa. social worker is headed to jail for lying about his professional credentials. Ira Bilofsky has a master’s degree but testified in family court cases that he had a PhD.
Prosecutors say the 50-year-old Towamencin man lied about his credentials in 2002 and then perpetuated the lie for another six years until he was caught. Judge William Furber sentenced Bilofsky to five to 23 months behind bars, saying he chipped away at the foundation of our jurisprudence. Prosecutor John Gradel says it undermines the integrity of the judicial system:
