It has the potential to be good news for the City of Philadelphia, struggling to make ends meet amid deepening budget woes.
The majority leader of the Pennsylvania state senate, Dominic Pileggi (R-Chester County, above) is softening his position a bit on the timing of legislation that Philadelphia needs to balance its budget -- legislation that would allow the city to raise its sales tax temporarily by one penny (one percentage point) for five years and to make changes in the pension system for city workers.
