Philadelphia City Employee Charged in Alleged Shakedown
by KYW's Tony Hanson
A Philadelphia Revenue Department employee has been charged with bribery following a law enforcement sting, after the employee allegedly tried to shake down a city contractor.
The contractor notified councilman Jack Kelly, who contacted the district attorney. DA Seth Williams says revenue employee Mark Holt was then caught trying to extort cash for approval of a city service:
"As a result of that, we conducted an undercover operation, a sting operation, using a county detective assigned to the district attorney's office, who met with the revenue employee. The revenue employee demanded cash for the abatement certificate, at which time we arrested the individual."
The target allegedly accepted an envelope containing close to $5,000 cash and was arrested.
