In Philadelphia, Some Mark ''Women in Construction Month'' on the Job
March is "Women in Construction Month" and, on the South Street Bridge reconstruction project, we met a couple of them.
Katrina Alston (above left) became a carpenter in March of last year. She was living in public housing, and PHA residents are offered the chance to learn a trade so she jumped at it.
She went through carpentry school, took the union test, and passed. Now she's working on the South Street bridge project:
"Right now I'm working on the jakes. The jakes are set up on the side of the bridge so the workers can get back and forth to finish constructing the bridge."
