Current and Former City Officials Respond to Nutter's New Budget Plan
One interested observer in City Council chambers who heard the mayor's address on Thursday has played it both ways -- both as a longtime councilman and as a two-term mayor.
Former mayor John Street says the trash and soda fees cause him real concern:
"When you put a $300 tax on regular, everyday, poor working people that they have to pay this to have your trash picked up, that's a real problem."
Street now teaches at Temple University and brought his class to Thursday's presentation. As for the sweet drink tax, he pulled from his pack an empty two-liter bottle of soda that he used as a prop:
