Councilman Wants Property Tax Hike Instead of Trash Fee

Philadelphia city council on Monday is again picking up the hot potato known as Mayor Nutter's budget. And later this week, will come a proposal to raise property taxes -- as an alternative to Nutter's plan for a trash collection fee.
Councilman Frank DiCicco (in file photo) on Thursday will formally introduce legislation for a property tax hike on the order of 12 percent to replace the trash fee. Both would bring in more than $100 million extra a year. DiCicco says a tax hike is better because the increased payment would be deductible:
"You cannot deduct a trash fee."
