Franklin Institute Shows Off Two New Permanent Exhibits
The Franklin Institute science museum is launching two new continuing exhibits on Saturday -- "Changing Earth" and "Electricity."
Changing Earth (above) shows how people and nature interact on a daily basis. Lots of interactives. Steve Synder is director of exhibits and development for the Franklin Institute:
"We have a changeable stream table; it let's you create a river, put in dams, create blockades, make new streams, create your own version of the Schuylkill, if you will, and see what happens as you make those changes."
Electricity examines the force's importance in human society and in culture. You can make your hair stand on end using the museum's Van de Graaff static charge generator, or you can use your cell phone to transmit signals that will light an LED display on the "cell phone disco wall" (right) or find out how much electricity you can generate on the "sustainable dance floor."
