Phila. City Council Approves Bill to Help Stolen Car Victims
by KYW's Mike Dunn
Talk about adding insult to injury: stolen car victims in Philadelphia face a double whammy when their car is recovered because they have to pay a tow company to get the car back. That will soon end.
Adding insult to injury of having your car stolen in Philadelphia is that if police recover it, they call a tow truck, and then the victim has to pay the salvor $150 to get the car back.
City council has now approved Darrell Clarke's bill requiring that police first call the victim:
"The first phone should go to that individual whose vehicle was stolen. Not the tow company, not City Hall. That person has an option to have their own road service come and recover the vehicle. They have twenty four hours or they can themselves go and recover the vehicle."
