Mayor Nutter hosted a high-ranking HUD official on Thursday, as he submitted Philadelphia's application for nearly $59-million in economic stimulus money to help stabilize neighborhoods with heavy concentrations of vacant properties.
During his visit, deputy secretary Ron Sims of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, recalled President Obama's remarks from earlier this week:
"He said we're going to have a listening tour for the metropolitan areas of the country, and then we're going to go back, and make it work."
