Philadelphia homeowners can breathe easier.
Declaring that they have "found common ground," Mayor Nutter and City Council members today struck a budget compromise that takes Nutter's controversial two year property tax hike off the table.
In the face of strong opposition from at least seven Council members, Mayor Nutter retracted his proposal for a two-year property tax increase. Instead, the three-year, one-cent increase in the sales tax would be extended to five years.
