Nike Denies Vick Deal
Michael Vick
Nike indicated Thursday that it has no contractual arrangement with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
The shoe and apparel company issued a written statement through a spokesman that said: "Nike does not have a contractual relationship with Michael Vick. We have agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike."
The statement was released by Nike a day after media reports quoted Vick representatives as saying that Vick had struck an endorsement deal with the company. Those representatives had refused to reveal financial terms.
Nike reportedly had terminated its endorsement contract with Vick in August 2007.
Vick missed the previous two NFL seasons while serving a federal sentence for his role in a dogfighting operation in Virginia.
He's back in the league after signing with the Eagles during the preseason.
Vick played in his first regular season game for the Eagles last Sunday and has made a series of public appearances, including one this week in Washington, in connection with an anti-dogfighting campaign by the Humane Society.
