The Penn Relays got underway on Thursday in West Philadelphia. And so did the traffic warnings around Franklin Field.
About 125,000 people are expected to jam the area around Franklin Field over the next three days for the track-and-field event, now in its 115th year.
And with the recent demolition of the South Street Bridge, it's that much harder for occasional visitors to get there, says Penn's public safety director, Maureen Rush (in file photo at right):
"We still have about 25 to 30,000 people working here, plus people visiting. Plus Relays traffic. And remember, we don't have South Street anymore."
