LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The No. 1 spot at the weekend box office is too close to call between Steve Carell and Tina Fey's comedy "Date Night" and the action tale "Clash of the Titans."
"Date Night" distributor 20th Century Fox estimates that "Date Night" debuted with $27.1 million. That's just ahead of the $26.9 million projection from Warner Bros. for "Clash of the Titans."
Warner Bros. executives say they tracked "Clash of the Titans" as No. 1 for a second straight weekend, with "Date Night" trailing by about $1 million.
While studios have fairly precise numbers for Friday and Saturday, discrepancies crop up because they estimate how much their movies will take in on Sunday. Rankings will be sorted out when studios release final numbers Monday.
