Prison Head Okays Plan to Move Inmates Out of Pa.
Pennsylvania’s corrections secretary says he’s moving ahead with a plan to send inmates out-of-state because of acute overcrowding in state prisons.
Corrections secretary Jeffrey Beard says within the next week, he will visit two states – one bordering Pennsylvania, the other not, and neither if which he wants to identify right now:
“And I’m hoping within 90 days or so to enter into a contract with one or more states, and begin sending inmates sometime early next year to other states. Right now, the system is very crowded. It increases the risk level of something bad happening. And I’m quickly running out of space to put inmates.”
