Free Tutoring Service Begging for Students to Teach

Free is a good price but a federally-funded program of free tutoring in Philadelphia goes begging for customers.

Supplemental Education Services are part of the No Child Left Behind Program. Students from 120 schools listed as failing are offered tutoring by state-approved providers, two sessions a week, an hour and a half to two hours a session, according to Stu Maleeff, whose Huntington Learning Center on City Avenue is one of the providers:

"It's not intended to do homework with the kids. It is intended to help them raise their educational skill levels. Now most of the students that enroll in these programs are coming from failing schools which are generally located in low-income areas."

Ninabel De Jesus a community and newspaper/magazine activist. She is the Special Volunteer of The Phila. Front Page News and WVSR1360 Playground of Hope project. The project is for helping children with disability using magazines and radio. From Dominican Republic, she leads the magazine and community-based operation that respects and celebrates the cultural richness of the Dominican and Latin experiences. And she is a translator for those who have difficulty understanding spoken English. Changing The Symbolism Of The Color Black

I am Van Stone, author and syndicated columnist, and I invite people from all intercultural backgrounds to join the Van Stone Productions Foundation. My hope is that, through the media, I can teach men, women, and children the importance of joining the organization Van Stone Productions Foundation (VSP) which helps to define the color “black.” I had exactly what VSP members were looking for when I used the admired works of Dr. Seuss’, “My Many Colored Days” to come up with the “Expression of Black” in the color black.

I assign colors to moods and emotions as was Dr. Seuss’ signature. VSP brings colors (nationalities) and images (crafts) together as one family/community. I believe that black means happy. I like to say, "The thoughts of happy men generate good company for positive people."

"Unfortunately the color of black has been blamed for many tragedies. Such as dressing in black during school shootings, being black-listed or black-balled, evil, etc.," I'd also say, "The color black has been synonymous with many negative things and subconsciously the color black creates negative thoughts for many people.

I desire that the color black be re-designed and created in a whole new expression, just like green is for earth day, blue is for jean day, silver is for a 25th anniversary.

I have created a PEACE DAY for the wearing of the color black to stop unduly influencing people with the symbolism of the color black having negative connotations. On PEACE DAYS, all days are great for reading, honoring grandparents, doing any type of planting, telling close friends that you are glad to have them as a real friend, and hanging out in your library. PEACE DAYS are also for conversing about your favorite realistic fiction, fantasy, fairy tales, mascots, or superheroes who may represent the color black. Then it would be good to draw the shape of a black rose or heart.
