Ground is Broken for New Barnes Museum in Philadelphia

Ceremonies were held on Friday at the new site of the Barnes Foundation in center city Philadelphia, which has housed that renowned collection of art in a gallery in suburban Merion, Pa. since the 1920s.
The groundbreaking took place under an enormous tent on a 4½-acre site on the north side of the Bejamin Franklin Parkway, near 21st Street, on a football-field-sized plot of green grass that was once the site of the Youth Study Center.
They trucked in the requisite dirt and more shovels than you could shake a stick at -- for dignitaries and donors.
