Sisters Charged In Abuse Of Mother
Two sisters have been charged after a mother in their care was found living with injuries one doctor called the worst he has seen in five years.
Authorities said the mother, April Ford, 40, died Friday.Tia Lashawn Sewell, 25, and Sharon Jones, 24, face multiple charges of vulnerable-adult abuse, assault and reckless endangerment, according to court documents that were filed Thursday and obtained by 11 News on Tuesday.
The case remains under investigation.
According to police, paramedics discovered April Ford on Feb. 29 after being called to her house in west Baltimore.
Charging documents said her injuries included "bed sores...open wounds, with lice and maggots in the wounds and severe dehydration."
She had "severe neglect injuries" to her abdomen, legs and back, according to charging documents.Ford was taken to Shock Trauma, which said her right leg was so badly deteriorated that the hospital had to amputate it.
A doctor said he hadn't seen injuries that severe in his five years at Shock Trauma, according to charging documents.During the investigation, April Ford's mother told authorities that Ford had been a paraplegic since 1982 and needed consistent care.
