A Philadelphia lawyer is being honored for his tireless work in the Philadelphia community, primarily his work in bringing African Americans and Jewish people closer together.
The American Jewish Committee is bestowing its Judge Learned Hand Award to Daniel Hyman, managing partner of the Philadelphia law firm of Kleinbard, Bell and Brecker for his outstanding leadership work, particularly his work with Operation Understanding, which brings African American and Jewish teens together to bridge their differences.
Hyman says his religious values prevent him from doing nothing:
“There is an understanding in the Jewish faith that it's our job to make this very troubled world a more perfect one.”
Hyman says leadership is vitally important in a community with disparate races and religions, so that a disagreement between individuals doesn't turn into a community-wide conflagration.
