A group of senior citizens in South Philadelphia say they are outraged at the possibility that the Older Adult Center on Passyunk Avenue could close because of the state budget impasse.
Notices are now posted there, and at many other facilities around the city, about the impending closings.
For many of these elderly folks, this center is the socialization they get. Eileen Ashton (second from right, in pink) is in her mid-'70s but is more concerned about her colleagues than about herself:
"This is their life! After this here, they are dead, we're gone, okay? If they stay home, half of them won't get up in the morning, won't fix a cup of coffee. And their main meal is their lunch, and they get a whole course dinner in here."
