Groups devoted to architecture and history in Philadelphia received grim notices on Thursday about a potential closure of the city's Historical Commission if the mayor's "Doomsday" budget is enacted.
The Historical Commission sent out notices to architects, developers, preservationists, and others who are involved in the business of Philadelphia's historic properties. The memo states that the commission will cease operations on October 2nd unless the budget crisis is suddenly resolved.
Jonathan Farnham is executive director of the commission:
"Every citizen of the city of Philadelphia now enjoys protections that the Historical Commission offers for historic properties. And those properties would be at risk if this is to happen on October 2nd."
