The Pennsylvania state House has approved the latest version of a bill that would allow Philadelphia to avert its doomsday budget scenario. But the measure faces an uncertain future in the state Senate.
Negotiators from the House and Senate had worked for days but ultimately failed to produce an agreement over controversial amendments to the bill. So the House has passed its own version of the measure, which would be sent to the Senate.
A spokesman for the Senate majority leader says Senate leaders would not be able to say until Monday whether the House revisions are palatable.
