Fallen Philadelphia police and firefighters were honored on Wednesday at the "Living Flame" memorial in Franklin Square, Sixth and Race Streets.
Although no firefighters were lost in the last year, the toll on the police department has been heavy.
Police commissioner Charles Ramsey recalled that he came aboard in the new Nutter administration when the city was still reeling from the loss of officer Chuck Cassidy:
