Nutter Greets County Residents at City Hall
During his second day on the job, Mayor Michael Nutter held an inaugural "Open House" at City Hall.
Marching bands played outside as a line of people -- some waiting for as long as two hours -- wrapped around City Hall for the event:
(Nutter:) "I may work here but it's the public's building. And I wanted all of Philadelphia and the people in the region to see just what their government is all about and have a celebration! It also gives me an opportunity to hear from real Philadelphians who just have a number of different things on their minds or who just want to say best wishes."
Thousands of people came through City Hall to shake hands with the new mayor and his administration:
"We're looking for some changes, so this too is a change that represents his willingness to open his house to the public."
"That's the first time I've ever met him! It was a treat!"
Among those shaking hands, the city's new police commissioner, Charles Ramsey:
"The real focus is going to be on getting violent crime down. I'm very proud of what took place in the District of Columbia, and we're going to bring some of those strategies to Philadelphia."
(Kuznits:) "You realize that you have a big job ahead of you?"
"Well, that's why I took it!"
