Students from the Mathematics, Civics, and Sciences Charter School, at Broad and Vine Streets, testified that they have been harassed and attacked by kids from other schools.
Roy Barksdale (right), 16, said he was recently beaten:
"They all jumped on me at the same time and I fell on the ground, and then they were stomping me and kicking me in the head."
Veronica Joyner, the founder of that school (in background of photo), said current SEPTA security is not adequate:
"The attackers have free rein of the subways, and they have terrorized the subway stops for many years."
SEPTA's security chief, James Jordan (in file photo at right) told Council that such behavior is difficult to police, because the goal of the perpetrators is not to steal but to have fun.
"Its a game for some of these kids," he said.
