As several blocks of Ogontz Avenue were being transformed on Friday for this weekend's West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival (which drew 525,000 people last year), area officials turned their attention to ongoing revitalization efforts in the neighborhood.
As they set up for the three-day festival along the 7100 to 7400 blocks of Ogontz Avenue, Pennsylvania state representative Dwight Evans (D-Phila.) was behind the wheel of an electric golf cart, with US senator Arlen Specter riding shotgun.
West Oak Lane entrepreneur Robert Bynum owns Relish Restaurant and Lounge, on Ogontz Avenue. He says it's similar to the former Zanzibar Blue, in the Bellevue Hotel, that he and his brother ran:
