Gail Anderson, Business & Community Liaison, is very proud of the students who attend the Philadelphia Job Corps Life Science Institute. Anderson’s ‘media’ outreach efforts for Philadelphians, in particular South Philly area residents, who desire to obtain help is quite impressive. Gail works very hard to help job seekers to understand that Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered and funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. It is the nation's largest career technical training and education program. That program helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible youth at least 16 years of age, Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life.
I have no doubt that what Job Corps is doing in its South Philadelphia center continues the wealth of education about becoming a producer or service provider. Job Corps has been doing this since 1964. What young person wouldn’t enjoy learning more about one of the nation’s largest residential, educational and vocational training program for economically undeserved, disadvantaged, or ‘at risk’ youth? Recently Job Corps celebrated another bright moment in Management & Training Corporation (MTC) aids.
May 8th was the Job Corps ‘open house’ or Grand Opening located at 2810 South 20th Street, Bldg., 12. Job Corps and its students were at its previous West Philadelphia location for 20 years. The South Philly site is the newest center out of 123 Job Corps centers nationally and is one of five non-residential centers nationally. Its current student body is 355. Students who attend this particular Job Corps should quickly feel the excitement since there is no other Job Corps Center like the one in South Philly.
The South Philly Job Corps as well as all 123 Job Corps nationwide help young people improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training. Funded by Congress, Job Corps has been training young adults for meaningful careers since 1964. The program The program provide an integrated, comprehensive array of services that include: academic, career technical and life skills training; career planning and work-based learning; health care; and post-program placement and transition support. This is very important to school students who desire to do more in life than become positive consumers. Job Corps assists in life choices. If any student participates in Job Corps they can expect big accomplishments.
Anderson speaks highly about some recent accomplishments for the Philadelphia Job Corps Life Science Institute (PJCLSI). Thursday, April 2, 2009 marked new beginnings and an historic partnering with the City of Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation for work base learning opportunities for Job Corps students in most its trades. The City’s specific interest in working with Job Corps students occurred as a result of the Department's specific interest in Job Corps. This initiative is a funded program, which has benefited students since 1964. In addition, the South Philly Job Corps center collaborates with community leaders using its Management and Training Corporation Job Corps Centers such as: Wilmington, Delaware Job Corps Center; Keystone Job Corps Center (Drums, PA); Red Rock Job Corps Center (Lopez, PA).
