Views & Opinions at Phila. Front Page News; "Doing business and starting business in Philadelphia?"



Would love to see you write about general tips for doing business and starting business in Philadephia.

I work with a mid-size tech consultancy, and we were just told that all business in Philadelphia is off limits. The City is deemed to bureaucratic to deal with, and doing business with any business in Phila. is deemed a hassle as a result by my company.

As PA is in my territory, I was trying to get this ban changed.

I am told that the city's tax laws are highly-restrictive, and that simply contracting with a Phila. company results in our company having to pay taxes and fill out paperwork, even if no work is actually conducted in PA.

Seems ridiculous to me that Phila. taxes any entity contracting with a local Phila. company.

Also seems ridiculous that my company has ruled out even taking meetings with Phila. companies. This has actually resulted in a policy that no one from our company can even travel for business to PA. No conferences. No meetings for NY-based companies with offices in Phila. Crazy.
