Above: Elisa Maza, who is a Black Superhero, from the Disney's Gargoyles. There is a real shortage of female comic strip characters that promote protection and service based on superhuman abilities. The World of Van Stone Presents "Heroes of The Last Q" for young women readers.
How's City Councilman, (the rookie), Jones doing on his first-look Philadelphia summer report card, the office of Councilman Curtis Jones? So, far I can tell you that where ever there is a school councilman grade teacher who is giving out class assignments, homework, and extra credit points for positive behaviors in the field, Councilman Jones is bringing home a report card that earns him the honors award. Here is just a few accomplishments that made this.
District Attorney Lynne Abraham, a controversially district attorney, has cleared Jones of alleged wrongdoing in his previous job. Former Philly city's inspector general Seth Williams conducted an investigation that clearly did not cause Jones to slow in his hard work as councilman for two very large residential areas known for productivity and an unique style. From the opening moments of the responsibility gate as councilman Jones sent out thousands of mailings informing district residents that new community development was on the way. And Jones¢ goal is to brings a Society Hill and Chestnut Hill like appearance to both the Wynnefield and Manayunk sections of the city. So far folks are impressed. But speaking of Abraham's office clearing Jones of all accusations and confused reasoning about wrongdoing Jones said that the results lifted " a cloud over my head."
"You want a fair and non sensationalized investigation, said Jones. "to elevate yourself on the backs of others is unfair," said Jones who was president and chief executive officer for 14 faithful and honest to goodness years of the Philadelphia Commercial Development Corp. before running for his newest office today. The councilman has been interested in the establishment of better public transit and public safety in Philly. He is also interested in stronger programs that strengthen the artistic and historical significance of the entire Wynnefield and Manayunk areas and the city as a whole.
Though Jones is closest to older Philadelphians, he has an effect on most young Philadelphians in the Wynnefield neighborhoods. It is Jones that mentors former troubled teens, after they have failed in school. Councilman Jones is also supportive of technological advancement, proving that old school shop such as wood can help keep kids off of the mean streets and on jobs. He has seemed to impress veteran council persons and the new Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter who are quicker than others to get involved in disputes that might not necessarily cover territory boundaries.
"Heroes of The Last Q," the World of Van Stone's comics. Superheroine Michelle Obama: If you missed last weeks column folks are all over Philly County, Delaware County, and well where ever else world wide, you can get your hands on a SCOOP talking about the cute artwork depicting Michelle Obama in a delightful super hero pose. But that's not really Michelle Obama, wife of Senator Obama for president of the United States. That's an example of what cartoons and positive images can do for black women and women of all backgrounds as a whole. Look a bit closer and you will see that it's "Storm," female leader from the Marvel collection.
Each week I will try to find you some nice visual arts that show any young woman voter can be a part of positive change as they read about characters that fight for justice and even what the American way is suppose to be about.
But why is Michelle a Super American hero? Michelle is originally pictured as a Black woman exposing political intolerance for women rights. She fights against racial prejudice too. My make believe characters like "Shadai Chiropractra" are well suited characters to show Michelle's strong will. Next week we will begin explanation of Heroes of the Last Q as it relates to young women and old alike fighting for the need of a woman's vote today.
