An attorney for the family of a hit-and-run victim who was allegedly killed by a law enforcement official spoke out Friday afternoon, saying they were disturbed by the lack on information they're getting from police.
The suspect in the case is an Anne Arundel County police officer.
Officials said the officer's truck rear-ended a Ford Explorer at about 6 a.m. on Interstate 95 on Jan. 28, officials said. The Explorer spun out of control, flipped over a guardrail and landed in the southbound lanes.
Antonio Martinez, 28, of Baltimore, was killed and two others -- Jamie Martinez Salas, 35, and Jose Olvera, 19, both of Baltimore -- were injured, according to police.
Police said that the police officer stopped briefly before fleeing. He and his truck was later found at a relative's home in Cecil County.
Martinez's wife, Amy, said Friday that she's upset that no one has been held responsible for her husband's death.
"At some point in time, they're going to have to put their cards on the table," said Richard Schmidt, the family's attorney.
The officer, who was off duty at the time of the incident, was taken into custody and suspended on Monday, but no charges have been filed, according to officials. The officer's name was also blocked out on the accident report.
The Anne Arundel Police Department did not comment Friday, but responded in a statement:
"Anne Arundel County Police Department has over a thousand employees and volunteers who are dedicated to public safety. We hold our officers to the highest ethical standards, and this allegation of misconduct is being investigated to the fullest extent. We continue to be in constant communication with the Maryland State Police and are cooperating completely with the ongoing investigation," the statement said.
Lawyers for the family didn't say if or when they would file a lawsuit.
