Commenting on remarks by Pennsylvania Congressman Jack Murtha, Governor Rendell (in file photo) said he stands by his own controversial statements about race in the presidential campaign (see related story).
Governor Rendell said he hadn’t heard about the comments by Democratic Congressman Jack Murtha of Johnstown, but referenced his own controversial comments in February that there are “conservative whites” in Pennsylvania who “are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate.”
“If Congressman Murtha repeated said what I said, that’s correct. There are certain people who are not going to do that, just like there are certain people who wouldn’t vote for a woman to be the next commander-in-chief.”
