Philadelphia Snow Recovery Efforts Shift to New Phase
by KYW's Mike Dunn
Philadelphians who have not yet shoveled their sidewalks better get out there and start digging. The city will be ticketing those who don't.
Mayor Nutter says you don't have to create a work of art when you shovel the sidewalk just make it passable:
"Give us your best shot, and clear a path, and make it easier for people to stay out on the sidewalk and not on the street. But ticketing is appropriate."
That ticketing will be conducted by teams from the Streets Department, with first offense fines of $25. Multiple offense fines range up to $300. The Mayor says the main goal here is to make sure children are not forced to walk in the streets.
