The mandatory school age for Philadelphia kids officially drops from eight to six next year.
Philadelphia children will have to start school at age six, come September. For the rest of the state, the compulsory age will remain eight. The school district's Deputy of Early Childhood Education, Donna Piekarski, says most Philadelphia kids are already beginning school at age six:
