JC Lamkin, Radio Show Celebrity, OnAir at WNWR TalkRadio 1540 AM. JC pioneers Black American Education Improvement and Cultural Community Empowerment dealing with Technology Communication in Philadelphia broadcasting live on the popular African-American viewership, 50,000 watts radio station frequency, serving PA, NJ, Delaware state-listeners and throughout the world. JC's show “Technically Speaking" carries 75,000 minimum listeners online by means of WVSR1360.com/SCOOP Radio associations.
Philadelphia -You've got mail! People will rush to their computers, open a web browser, retrieve an e-mail, and chat on I.M.--all while enjoying the privilege of having Internet access. Unfortunately, for some Philadelphians, this is hardly the case. Award winning radio personality, JC Lamkin is using the radio airwaves to bridge that gap.
The “Technically Speaking” radio program on 1540 AM WNWR, www.wnwr.com and WVSR 1360.1 AM, www.wvsr1360.com hosted by award winning businesswoman, JC Lamkin, CNA, PMP will inspire those who want to enhance their lives by showing them how they may make practical use of some of the technical resources that are available to them.
"Unlike most computer related shows, we do not lean too heavily on suggesting that technology is the ONLY solution available," explains JC. "Instead, we use real life scenarios to show exactly how computers and the internet coupled with traditional resources can help people with job hunting, home/school assignments, religious research, marketing and sales of their products or services, or even just locating a distributor of their favorite discontinued item. But, most importantly, we attempt to show people why we need to be less passive and anxious about using technology in our communities. Also, we give an opportunity to local tech businesses by making it affordable to advertise during the show."
The show's first guests were authors who faced many challenges early on in their lives and learned to use the internet to publish, market and sell their books thereby sharing their stories with the world and assuring that they have more control over their work. JC, who is also the president of Gypsy Lane Technologies, recognized that there has always been a huge gap in the area of technology between those who utilize the tools available and those who do not. She has realized that those who do not use computers are often at a huge disadvantage; and, experience anxiety at the thought of using a computer. She is making certain that this radio show, along with some audacious live in-the-street face-to-face events like organizing job fairs and voter registration drives to be held at neighborhood bars and taverns, will not only help people become more comfortable with the internet but will also help give a boost to social change initiatives by making certain that these initiatives really reach the people who need the most help.
"I've enjoyed a long history in community activism and I know that some of the traditional outreach is simply not working. Our live events are an opportunity to try something different and really ACTIVELY help those may be apprehensive about leaving their comfort zones. When we go into the bars, we bring our laptops and create resumes on the spot for bar patrons. Most importantly though, we make certain that we have employment recruiters and human development experts on hand who can give individualized attention. That way we are not simply putting a Band-Aid on the core problem," says JC. "one of my older brothers, Ken Houston, who co-hosts the show with me is an experienced yet innovative and effective Team Building/Conflict Resolution consultant. I asked him to help me host the show because not only is he an extremely proficient computer user, but he also understands how important a tool it is for any activist program. And, although my company, is a for-profit entity, we realize that we are a part of a village. So, like any good villager, we want to do what we can to uplift the entire community."
JC's business, Gypsy Lane Technologies (www.gltMYpc.com), focuses mostly on website development and webcasting. They were the tech company chosen to host the live Black Public Issues forum at the Church of the Advocate on July 16th, the internet solutions provider for the Metropolitan Opera House, and the creator of the “Internet Success” violence prevention campaign. A certified computer network administrator and certified project manager, JC was one of the 2006 recipients of the Business Boost Award from the Women's Opportunity Resource Center and the Cheyney University's Community Leader award. As a board member of the Philadelphia Congress of the National Congress of Black Women, JC co-chaired an immensely successful Tribute to Women in Ministries event at Christian Hope Baptist Church earlier this year is the recipient of the Anita T. Conner award for her work in media/public relations and is a finalist for the 2006 Achievement In Radio Awards in the category of Best New Air Talent.
She attributes her many successes to her study of Project Management and direction of her mentors. "Being a certified project manager gives me an outlet for my obsessive compulsive tendencies" laughs JC. "Our clients seem to like the fact that I can blend my attention to detail and Internet skills in order to bring them the best service possible. And, my mentors have always been kind enough to lend me their guidance and honest opinions so naturally I share what I've learned from them with others. More often than not, you will see my 11-year-old niece and my 13-year-old nephew shadowing me when I go out into the field to do a webcast or at the radio studio. To me, it only makes sense that we bring the next generation along with us if we expect them to learn more about the proper life choices that mature people make."
JC suggests that people listen to the show if they need encouragement, tech related information or simply to participate in current events discussions. You can catch the "Technically Speaking" radio show on Saturdays at 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on WNWR 1540 AM and can be heard on the worldwide web at http://www.wvsr1360.com/ and www.wnwr.com.
