THE VISION
(“HEAR OUR VOICES NOT OUR CRIES”)
It is the vision of The John Whitehead Foundation to include our children in our plight to address the violence (with or without the use of deadly weapons), sex driven attitudes, negative influence, peer pressure as well as their education and lack there of. We are proposing a “Hear Our Voices Not Our Cries” march in lieu of the Million Man March, Million Women March as well as the 10,000 Men Meeting which just took place at the Liacourse Forum.
We plan to assemble in the OARC parking lot located at 6814 Ogontz Avenue. We will start by passing out candles to the adults to light for hope and faith that our children will also see the light and make positive changes. The children will receive whistles to blow out the negative energy which have become a major problem in our communities. It will include order along with excitement as we began to march to a different beat. We are currently in the process of producing a drill song with positive and informative lyrics that will be sung in an effort to “Hear Our Voices Not Our Cries”.
Our agenda will include but will not be limited to giving alternative methods of dealing with the issues of violence, peer pressure and conflicting emotions which are causing our children to make poor choices. Prior to the event taking place, we are going to send out questionnaires to some of the neighboring Middle and High Schools, as well as to the community with the hopes of getting their ideas on some of the issues that we need to address. We will also allow the children and their parents to give their own personal feed back during the event as a chance to “Hear Our Voices Not Our Cries”. The John Whitehead Foundation is committed to opening our doors and hearts to the families of the communities and in doing so we need their support.
The John Whitehead Foundation is asking for moral and financial support to began “Hear Our Voices Not Our Cries” music education classes. We have writers and producers who are willing to volunteer to teach these classes. We are asking anyone in the community with musical talent if they would also like to volunteer to teach one or more of the following classes. The classes will include lyric and composition writing, voice lessons, producing, engineering as well as the business aspect of music.
Through the participation of our exclusive and non exclusive producers, writers and staff we are planning to give a mini concert debuting are new homegrown artist. We are excited to use are own artist due to the fact they are everyday normal children coming from the same communities that the children we are trying to reach reside in. Because children relate so well to music we are geared towards carrying out the legacy of John Whitehead and his genius. The John Whitehead “There’s No Stopping The Music” Foundation will continue a Philly legacy by keeping the message in the music.
