Tech’s Newest “It Girl” Takes To The Airwaves by Van Stone vspfoundation@yahoo.com (215) 747-8746
by Van Stone vspfoundation@yahoo.com (215) 747-8746
JC Lamkin, Radio Show Celebrity, OnAir at WNWR TalkRadio 1540 AM. JC pioneers Black American Education Improvement and Cultural Community Empowerment dealing with Technology Communication in Philadelphia broadcasting live on the popular African-American viewership, 50,000 watts radio station frequency, serving PA, NJ, Delaware state-listeners and throughout the world. JC's show “Technically Speaking" carries 75,000 minimum listeners online by means of WVSR1360.com/SCOOP Radio associations.
Philadelphia -You've got mail! People will rush to their computers, open a web browser, retrieve an e-mail, and chat on I.M.--all while enjoying the privilege of having Internet access. Unfortunately, for some Philadelphians, this is hardly the case. Award winning radio personality, JC Lamkin is using the radio airwaves to bridge that gap.
The “Technically Speaking” radio program on 1540 AM WNWR, www.wnwr.com and WVSR 1360.1 AM, www.wvsr1360.com hosted by award winning businesswoman, JC Lamkin, CNA, PMP will inspire those who want to enhance their lives by showing them how they may make practical use of some of the technical resources that are available to them.
"Unlike most computer related shows, we do not lean too heavily on suggesting that technology is the ONLY solution available," explains JC. "Instead, we use real life scenarios to show exactly how computers and the internet coupled with traditional resources can help people with job hunting, home/school assignments, religious research, marketing and sales of their products or services, or even just locating a distributor of their favorite discontinued item. But, most importantly, we attempt to show people why we need to be less passive and anxious about using technology in our communities. Also, we give an opportunity to local tech businesses by making it affordable to advertise during the show."
The show's first guests were authors who faced many challenges early on in their lives and learned to use the internet to publish, market and sell their books thereby sharing their stories with the world and assuring that they have more control over their work. JC, who is also the president of Gypsy Lane Technologies, recognized that there has always been a huge gap in the area of technology between those who utilize the tools available and those who do not. She has realized that those who do not use computers are often at a huge disadvantage; and, experience anxiety at the thought of using a computer. She is making certain that this radio show, along with some audacious live in-the-street face-to-face events like organizing job fairs and voter registration drives to be held at neighborhood bars and taverns, will not only help people become more comfortable with the internet but will also help give a boost to social change initiatives by making certain that these initiatives really reach the people who need the most help.
"I've enjoyed a long history in community activism and I know that some of the traditional outreach is simply not working. Our live events are an opportunity to try something different and really ACTIVELY help those may be apprehensive about leaving their comfort zones. When we go into the bars, we bring our laptops and create resumes on the spot for bar patrons. Most importantly though, we make certain that we have employment recruiters and human development experts on hand who can give individualized attention. That way we are not simply putting a Band-Aid on the core problem," says JC. "one of my older brothers, Ken Houston, who co-hosts the show with me is an experienced yet innovative and effective Team Building/Conflict Resolution consultant. I asked him to help me host the show because not only is he an extremely proficient computer user, but he also understands how important a tool it is for any activist program. And, although my company, is a for-profit entity, we realize that we are a part of a village. So, like any good villager, we want to do what we can to uplift the entire community."
JC's business, Gypsy Lane Technologies (www.gltMYpc.com), focuses mostly on website development and webcasting. They were the tech company chosen to host the live Black Public Issues forum at the Church of the Advocate on July 16th, the internet solutions provider for the Metropolitan Opera House, and the creator of the “Internet Success” violence prevention campaign. A certified computer network administrator and certified project manager, JC was one of the 2006 recipients of the Business Boost Award from the Women's Opportunity Resource Center and the Cheyney University's Community Leader award. As a board member of the Philadelphia Congress of the National Congress of Black Women, JC co-chaired an immensely successful Tribute to Women in Ministries event at Christian Hope Baptist Church earlier this year is the recipient of the Anita T. Conner award for her work in media/public relations and is a finalist for the 2006 Achievement In Radio Awards in the category of Best New Air Talent.
She attributes her many successes to her study of Project Management and direction of her mentors. "Being a certified project manager gives me an outlet for my obsessive compulsive tendencies" laughs JC. "Our clients seem to like the fact that I can blend my attention to detail and Internet skills in order to bring them the best service possible. And, my mentors have always been kind enough to lend me their guidance and honest opinions so naturally I share what I've learned from them with others. More often than not, you will see my 11-year-old niece and my 13-year-old nephew shadowing me when I go out into the field to do a webcast or at the radio studio. To me, it only makes sense that we bring the next generation along with us if we expect them to learn more about the proper life choices that mature people make."
JC suggests that people listen to the show if they need encouragement, tech related information or simply to participate in current events discussions. You can catch the "Technically Speaking" radio show on Saturdays at 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on WNWR 1540 AM and can be heard on the worldwide web at http://www.wvsr1360.com/ and www.wnwr.com. WVSR-AM Sports TalkRadio www.wvsr1360.com the NBL, Ken Griffey Jr. hits career home run No. 599
Cincinnati Reds' Ken Griffey Jr. rounds the bases after hitting a two-run home run off Atlanta Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens in the first inning of a baseball game Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Cincinnati. The home run was the 599th of Griffey's career. |
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 599th career homer Saturday off Atlanta's Jair Jurrjens, a two-run shot that left him one away from an elite mark.
Griffey's homer in the first inning was a breakthrough for the Cincinnati Reds outfielder, who has been having trouble getting those last few to 600. He would become the sixth to reach the mark, joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa.
The 38-year-old outfielder came into the season needing only seven to get to 600. He hit No. 597 on April 23 at Great American Ball Park, where the club has been promoting his quest for 600.
Then, Griffey went 90 at-bats before getting his next homer, in San Diego on May 22. It was the second-longest drought of his career.
He had gone 29 at-bats without a homer before he connected on Saturday in his first at-bat against Jurrjens, who became the 383rd pitcher to give up a homer by Griffey.
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- Barack Obama said Saturday has resigned his 20 year membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago "with some sadness" in the aftermath of inflammatory remarks by his longtime pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and more recent fiery remarks at the church by another minister.
"This is not a decision I come to lightly ... and it is one I make with some sadness," he said at a news conference after campaign officials released a letter of resignation sent to the church on Friday.
He said he and his wife has been discussing the issue since Wright's appearance at a Press Club appearance in Washington that reignited furor over remarks he had made in various sermons at the church.
"I suspect we'll find another church home for our family," Obama said.
He said it is clear that since he is a presidential candidate, any remarks made at Trinity by any speaker "will be imputed to me even if they conflict" with his stated views and values.
Obama said he had "no idea" how the resignation would "impact my presidential campaign, but I know its the right thing to do for the church and our family."
Officials say Fla., Mich. delegates will get half-votes
Democratic National Committee Rules and Bylaws committee co-chairs Jim Roosevelt, second from left, and Alexis Herman, second from right, listen during a meeting, Saturday, May 31, 2008 in Washington, to determine how to count the primary votes for Michigan and Florida. Also at the tale are Joe Sandler, DNC General Counsel, left, and DNC staff member Phil McNamara. |
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic Party officials agreed Saturday to seat Michigan and Florida delegates with half-votes, ruling on a long-running dispute that has threatened the party's chances in November and maintaining Barack Obama's front-runner status as he moves closer to the nomination.
The decision was a blow to Hillary Rodham Clinton as she was on the verge of watching Obama make history as the first black Democratic presidential nominee. It prompted an irate reaction from boisterous Clinton supporters in the audience and her chief delegate counter, Harold Ickes.
Ickes angrily informed the party's Rules Committee that Clinton had instructed him to reserve her right to appeal the matter to the Democrats' credentials committee, which could potentially drag the matter to the party's convention in August.
"There's been a lot of talk about party unity - let's all come together, and put our arms around each other," said Ickes, who is also a member of the Rules Committee that approved the deal. "I submit to you ladies and gentlemen, hijacking four delegates ... is not a good way to start down the path of party unity."
The resolution increased the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination to 2,118, leaving Obama 66 delegates short but still within striking distance after the three final primaries are held in the next three days.
The deal was reached after committee members met privately for more than three hours, trying to hammer out a deal, and announced in a raucous hearing that reflected deep divisions within the party.
"How can you call yourselves Democrats if you don't count the vote?" one man in the audience shouted before being escorted out by security. "This is not the Democratic Party!"
The sticking point was Michigan, where Obama's name was not on the ballot.
Clinton's camp insisted Obama shouldn't get any pledged delegates in Michigan since he chose not to put his name on the ballot, and she should get 73 pledged delegates with 55 uncommitted. Obama's team insisted the only fair solution was to split the pledged delegates in half between the two campaigns, with 64 each.
The committee agreed on a compromise offered by the Michigan Democratic Party that would split the difference, allowing Clinton to take 69 delegates and Obama 59. Each delegate would get half a vote at the convention in Denver this summer, according to the deal.
The deal passed 19-8. Thirteen members of the committee supported Clinton, so she wasn't even able to keep her supporters together.
The committee also unanimously agreed to seat the Florida delegation based on the outcome of the January primary, with 105 pledged delegates for Clinton and 67 for Obama, but with each delegate getting half a vote as a penalty.
Proponents of full seating continuously interrupted the committee members as they explained their support of the compromise, then supporters of the deal shouted back.
"Shut up!" one woman shouted at another.
"You shut up!" the second woman shouted back.
Jim Roosevelt, co-chair of the committee, tried repeatedly to gavel it to order. "You are dishonoring your candidate when you disrupt the speakers," he scolded.
Obama picked up a total of 32 delegates in Michigan, including superdelegates who have already committed, and 36 in Florida. Clinton picked up 38 in Michigan, including superdelegates, and 56.5 in Florida.
Obama's total increased to 2,052, and Clinton had 1,877.5.
A proposal favored by Clinton that would have fully seated the Florida delegation fully in accordance with the January primary went down with 12 votes in support and 15 against.
Tina Flournoy, who led Clinton's efforts to seat both states' delegations with full voting power, said she was disappointed by the outcome but knew the Clinton position had "no chance" of passing the committee.
"I understand the rules. ... I can tell you one thing that has driven these rules was being a party of inclusion," Flournoy said. "I wish my colleagues will vote differently."
Alice Huffman, a Clinton supporter on the committee, explained that the compromise giving delegates half votes was the next best thing to full seating.
"We will leave here more united than we came," she said.
Some audience members heckled her in response. "Lipstick on a pig!" one shouted.
"We just blew the election!" a woman in the audience shouted. The crowd was divided between cheering Obama supporters and booing Clinton supporters.
"This isn't unity! Count all the votes!" another audience member yelled.

Expected were stiltwalkers and an appearance by Lumpy the Kangaroo.’ The Front Page News Television Network, formally know as the Van Stone Digest, covered Soul City Wrestling. However, towards the end of the year 2000, the Soul City Wrestling and Heroes of the Last Q were in decline. Unable to reach the audience or have the effect that PFPN had gained within its first year, coverage of Soul City Wrestling folded and the network began to cover other programming.
Nonetheless, in 2000 PFPN began to produce music videos television programming using High 8 video and special affects to compete with major television stations. Gerald McNeil, webmaster, videographer, photographer and radio/television engineer joined Samuel Van Stone Downing as Manager after working with the PFPN for over 2 years.
The PFPN targeted its programming to younger and older audiences alike PFPN offered local national news and/or sports programming to its viewers.
During the year of 2007, a new, full version of the network webcast, www.frontpagenews.us, was launched. The interactive webcast contains links to children safe web sites and now features in-depth education information of PFPN Black, Greek, Latino, and Bangladesh, History programs.

After Gerald McNeil and a few family friends of Stone frantically tried to bail Stone out of jail but to no success Stone was ordered to return to Delaware County Prison for 6 consecutive weekends followed by legal eviction from the East Lansdowne office.
The Front Page News reappeared 18 days later from Stone’s September 27, 2004 wrongful imprisonment with an editorial declaring Media Delaware County Courthouse as allegedly corrupt. Focusing on just tires and how recycling tires in Philadelphia would be something to better community education and economic improvement for Black Americans, Greek Americans, Bangladesh Americans, Irish Americans, Jewish Americans and Latino Americans.
Front Page News participation in production of Just Tires (Trash) into jobs also became good for youth in the community service and the school environment. PFPN used this idea about tire transformation involved in solar energy to help School dropout students. PFPN goal is to work with energy related companies in Philadelphia such as Gulf, Sunoco, GP, etc. PFPN seeks out small energy companies that produce or sell gas. PFPN introduces ways for cities to produce solar energy involving cars, real estate, schools and political advancements.
PFPN feature articles about using solar energy to improve the new Youth Study Center Project in West Philadelphia. PFPN produces weekly, lessons for students, and city council and businesses dealing with the problem of Philadelphia tire trash.
PFPN was the first Black American newspaper online to discuss how tire trash can be, the car, the bicycle, the toy, the shopping carts, the skate boards and whatever else that involves tires. PFPN made rubber a key word to the Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter, advising the Mayor to produce rubber recycling as a Philadelphia staple.
PFPN showed how rubber tires are so hard to get rid of. Many folks in Philadelphia dump tires in the streets, lots, and even business areas because they don't know what else to do with tires. PFPN showed how there are tire repair businesses that need help with this problem. PFPN was praised for articles showing how small businesses dumped used and useless tires instead of destroy them properly. PFPN discussed how the Philadelphia highways are full of tires dumped by the “little guy” called the Tire RepairMan.
PFPN pledged that it wanted to help the “little guy” and not put all the blame on them to hurt their business. PFPN questioned its readers and the city of Philadelphia and universities, where does all those tires go when the tire repair man dump them from his station? PFPN demonstrated that the “little guy” does not only do tire dumping but the average good citizen does it too.
PFPN produced further stories showing Mayor Nutter that their stories on tire repair shops and the average citizen was help toward supporting clean energy as a way for proper trash removal. Recycling tire trash can be done using any type of clean energy.
The story of Nancy Glover and Honorable Judge Maureen Fitzpatrick, Honorable Judge Barry C. Dozor, and Honorable Judge Michael F.X. Coll is one of almost unbelievable family court abuse and judge cruelty. In fact, the testimony of the defendant Mrs.Glover incriminates many others. Allegedly the others are certain Pennsylvania Justices at Media Delaware County Family Courthouse. Although there are currently 24 Delaware County Board of Judges, 19 District Court Judges 5 Senior District Court Judges, not to be confused with Delaware County Magistrate Justices.
Allegations of blatant inconsiderateness in the blood of Judges Maureen F. Fitzpatrick, Barry C. Dozor, and Michael F.X. Coll are the norm. But according to a story covered by PFPN’s Van Stone, Gerald McNeil, James Sullivan, Special Investigator John H. Coleman, Jr Mrs. Glover about Fitzpatrick, putting it as respectfully as PFPN could, Judge Fitzpatrick’s behavior was inconsistent with fair citizenship.
Newspaper Icon Van Stone met Judge Fitzpatrick. In several PFPN reports Van Stone wrote about how if someone told Fitzpatrick that she would be inconsistent to decide for the plan after attacking it, most likely she would attack any way. An article showed while a family plan is to save families, according to Glover, Fitzpatrick’s decision is most often a report full of inconsistencies ending in fear.
Front Page News, with Van Stone Downing, reported how Glover was terrified from the memories of a 9MM automatic to her head and threats to kill the children. According to Nancy, her Judge, estranged husband and his girlfriend were allegedly systematically mentally torturing her. According to Nancy, her abuser stopped paying 5 months of bills & destroyed their heater. Fitzpatrick allowed an appraisal presented by estranged husband as factual during divorce proceedings based on a ride by from the street after the complete appraisal. Overlooked was an engineers report concerning the structural damage caused allegedly by her husband during domestic violence incidents reported to police into consideration worth $150,000.00. This too happened according to Glover. Cashed were all of Glover’s insurance checks and reimbursement checks since 2000. These included doctors’ checks deposited in the girlfriend’s account. There was obstruction of evidence about an attempt to get the deed to the additional property & sell it out from under Nancy with the help of a friend.
PFPN with Van Stone Downing reported that in the end, Nancy alleges that Judge Fitzpatrick would not permit Nancy to speak or present any facts. And Nancy is to be removed from her home; she is disabled and uses a wheelchair, in less than two months. Nancy’s is on her way to being homeless and accompanied by her grandchild (Malia) and daughter (Amanda) who also has chronic medical conditions.
Van Stone reported that when such unjust things like this happen, as is the normal in Media Delaware County Courthouse, Glover should have been allowed to file an expedition to the next level of the court where the hearing would be put back before a Judge that would allow her to fairly present here testimony.
PFPN with Van Stone won praise for telling the story about Nancy’s complaints of having problems swallowing and that she was in pain from a broken collarbone were ignored by Judge Fitzpatrick.
PFPN with Van Stone gained even more praise as the article continued telling about the next morning Judge Fitzpatrick seemed more concerned with watching TV then getting Mrs. Glover help. There was no more pleasure for Fitzpatrick to get from abusing the defendant so Nancy was ordered to come up with thousands of dollars to pay or else be evicted and see the house sold. Nancy could not get the loan so desperately needed to save her home. Mrs. Glover called Van Stone with the very credible story and so Stone offered not only to help her in any way that he could, making her story plain to the public. Van Stone soon made an offering to Glover to act as a co-signer on a loan, putting up my own house for her, if there is any legit lender that can help Nancy borrow up to $250,000.00 thousand dollars or else Glover would be homeless in one month. Clinton expects superdelegates to decide next week
Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., boards her campaign plane in Newburgh, N.Y., en route to Puerto Rico Friday, May 30, 2008. |
HELENA, Mont. (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she expects uncommitted superdelegates to begin making the choice that will decide her marathon Democratic primary race against Barack Obama soon after the Tuesday's primaries.
In a conference call with Montana reporters, Clinton was asked about the effort by top Democratic leaders to push for a quick end to the fight for the presidential nomination after primaries in South Dakota and Montana next week. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said that he, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and party chairman Howard Dean will urge uncommitted delegates to choose sides.
Clinton said: "I think that after the final primaries, people are going to start making up their minds. I think that is the natural progression that one would expect."
Clinton said superdelegates - the party and elected officials who can vote for whomever they choose regardless of what happens in the primaries and caucuses - will have to decide who is the stronger candidate in the fall to run against Republican John McCain.
"I think that people will have to ask themselves those questions, who would be the best president in terms of preparation and readiness and effectiveness, and who would be the stronger candidate. And I imagine that process will begin after the end of the last primaries," Clinton said.
Last week, Clinton indicated that she might take the fight to the convention in August if Michigan and Florida want to challenge an unfavorable ruling on their delegates. The two states were stripped of their delegates for holding early primaries; a special Democratic National Committee panel meets Saturday to decide their fate.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Clinton was asked whether she would support the states if they appeal an unfavorable rules committee decision to the convention floor, the former first lady replied:
"Yes I will. I will, because I feel very strongly about this."
"I will consult with Floridians and the voters in Michigan because it's really their voices that are being ignored and their votes that are being discounted, and I'll support whatever the elected officials and the voters in those two states want to do."
Taking her battle to the convention would fly in the face of an increasing number of party leaders who say the contest needs to be wrapped up shortly after the last primary on June 3 to prepare adequately for the fall election.
Asked if she now envisioned the dispute over Michigan and Florida extending beyond June 3, Clinton replied: "It could, I hope it doesn't. I hope it's resolved to everyone's satisfaction by that date, because that's what people are expecting, but we'll have to see what happens."

Man, daughter rescued from broken amusement ride
May 27--An unidentified man and his 5-year-old daughter had to be rescued Monday after their ride at Funzone Amusements in Farmingdale suddenly stopped, leaving them hanging upside down in an enclosed pod, six feet off the ground.
Chief Anthony Nicholes said it took volunteers from the East Farmingdale Fire Department about 30 minutes to retrieve the two from the flight-simulator ride, which is called The Max. "We got the little girl out first," he said, "and the father out about five, 10 minutes later."
He said the father, 39, and girl were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for observation, but "there were no obvious injuries." He said three ambulances, two rescue trucks, one tactical rescue truck, two engines and four chiefs responded to the 2:44 p.m. call.
Funzone manager Glenn Taus said the fire department was called in as a precaution. "We didn't want to take a chance because of the angle they were in," Taus said of the father and daughter.
Taus said he did not think the individual ride malfunctioned. He said when the safety bar that restrains passengers is lifted, the ride automatically stops. He said the ride was put back in service after the rescue.
Nicholes said the fire marshal is investigating.
Comcast spokesman Jeff Alexander says the company is working with law enforcement authorities to find out who defaced the front page of Comcast.net and diverted traffic to another site.

Obama considers Iraq visit amid GOP criticism
Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., speaks during a discussion on protecting homeownership in North Las Vegas, Nev., Tuesday, May 27, 2008. |
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Barack Obama - increasingly under fire from John McCain as he appears poised to win the Democratic nomination - said he is considering a trip to Iraq but dismissed as a "political stunt" an invitation by the Republican candidate to make the visit together.
McCain and Obama have increasingly targeted each other as a November general election showdown between the two men seems inevitable. The discussion about Iraq, largely sidelined during the primary battle, is likely to factor prominently in the general election and Obama has rallied to counter McCain's criticism that he lacks foreign policy experience.
Obama, who is now just 44 delegates shy of the 2,026 needed to claim the nomination and drive rival Hillary Rodham Clinton out of the race, could win the White House nod as early as Sunday if he fares well in Puerto Rico's primary.
Puerto Rico's primary, the island's first in nearly three decades, has brought attention to a U.S. territory where residents cannot vote in the general election and largely do not identify with any mainland party.
But, with 55 delegates to be apportioned between him and Clinton, eyes are on the territory because Obama could theoretically clinch the nomination if he beats his rival. Clinton is counting on a victory to bolster her claim to have won the majority of popular votes based on a selective count of Democratic contests.
The Democrat, vying to become the U.S.'s first black president, told The New York Times that the possible trip would be to talk to the U.S. troops and commanders and not to "try to score political points or perform."
McCain, a decorated Navy pilot and former Vietnam prisoner of war, has built much of his candidacy on his foreign policy and national security experience. While he supports continued U.S. military involvement in Iraq, Obama has called for a quick withdrawal of the troops.
In a campaign appearance in Nevada, a western U.S. state where both candidates have recently sought to shore up support ahead of the November race, McCain said Obama was "driven to his position by ideology and not by the facts on the ground"
McCain, who has been to Iraq eight times, said the first-term Democrat senator "does not have the knowledge or the experience to make the judgments. Presidents have to listen and learn. Presidents have to make judgments no matter how popular or unpopular they may be."
The Republican Party joined the fray Wednesday by launching an online clock to count the days since Obama last visited the war zone. By their count, it has been 871 days.
Obama, who spoke to reporters on his airplane Wednesday night as he flew home to Chicago, said it's "not relevant" that he has not been to Iraq since 2006 and that McCain was using the argument as a diversion.
Obama made his only trip to Iraq in January 2006 as part of a congressional delegation.
McCain, who was on a fundraising trip with events in Los Angeles and Reno, Nevada, seemed offended that Obama characterized the invitation for a joint trip as a political stunt, saying it showed Obama's "lack of appreciation of the importance of this issue."
Obama picked up some fresh support heading Puerto Rico's contest. He secured the backing of four more superdelegates Wednesday but lost one. On Thursday he gained one more. Their backing is essential because they are free to vote as they chose in the party's nominating convention in August.
Clinton campaigned Wednesday in South Dakota which along with Montana hold the last two primaries on June 3. Her campaign aides were in Washington peppering uncommitted superdelegates with data indicating why she should be the Democratic presidential nominee.
Obama has 1,982 delegates, to Clinton's 1,780.
Clinton also is counting on a Democratic Party rules committee Saturday to seat the delegations from Michigan and Florida, whose primaries were voided when they were moved into January in violation of party rules.
Obama is willing to give her the lion's share of those delegates but is stopping short of her demand to fully recognize the two renegade states.
The DNC staff wrote in an analysis sent to members this week that the rules call for the two states to lose at least half their delegates at a minimum for voting too early.
Clinton presses on as primary season nears end

South Dakota is predominantly Republican. And even though many of its voters have a lot in common with those who've backed Clinton in other primaries, most of the South Dakota Democrats who've ever won statewide election are backing Obama. That includes former Senator George McGovern, who was the presidential nominee in 1972.
South Dakota and Montana on Tuesday are a final chance for the candidates to display vote-getting power that could sway superdelegates elsewhere.
Kevin Rodriquez is a superdelegate from the U.S. Virgin Islands. And he's become the first to switch away from Obama and back to Clinton. It's the second time he's switched. Rodriquez won't say why but says it's his right and is about doing "what's best for America."
Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidate John McCain dared Obama to make a joint visit with him to Iraq to see "the facts on the ground" and accused the Democratic front-runner of lacking the wisdom or experience to back his view that the war was a mistake.
Obama snapped back that "I don't think John McCain or the Bush administration have a very strong argument to make about their foreign policy, so they're going to try to come up with diversions or distractions and not argue the substance."
Obama's campaign has been considering an overseas trip since last year to beef up his foreign policy credentials, but the extended fight for the Democratic nomination with Hillary Rodham Clinton has delayed those plans.
"A trip is under consideration but no final plans have been made," Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said.
The Illinois senator made his only trip to Iraq in January 2006 as part of a congressional delegation. McCain, a senator from Arizona, has been to Iraq eight times, most recently in March.
Obama picked up some fresh support Wednesday heading into a primary that could finally put him over the edge for the Democratic nomination.
Obama, who has increasingly turned his attention to the general election, got endorsements Wednesday from four more superdelegates but lost one. Their backing is essential because they are free to vote as they chose in the party's nominating convention in August.
Heading into Sunday's primary in Puerto Rico, the first-term senator has a nearly insurmountable lead in delegates to the party's national nominating convention, and is now 45 short of the 2,026 needed to capture the party's White House nod.
Puerto Rico's presidential primary, the island's first in nearly three decades, has brought the focus of American politics to a U.S. territory where residents cannot vote in the general election and largely do not identify with any mainland party.

Clinton is counting on a victory to bolster her claim to have won the majority of popular votes based on a selective count of Democratic contests.
On Wednesday, McCain was continuing fundraising, with events in Los Angeles and Reno, Nevada. Obama was also in the west, offering a prelude to a likely general election matchup and the inevitable fight for three booming battleground states.
McCain sounded stung that Obama characterized the idea of a joint visit to Iraq as a "stunt," saying it showed Obama's "lack of appreciation of the importance of this issue."
"I just don't want to be involved in a political stunt," Obama said told the Web site of The New York Times on Wednesday.
"I think that if I'm going to Iraq, then I'm there to talk to troops and talk to commanders," Obama said in the interview. "I'm not there to try to score political points or perform. The work they're doing there is too important."
McCain supports continued U.S. military involvement in Iraq; Obama opposes the war and wants to bring home the troops.
McCain said Obama "was driven to his position by ideology and not by the facts on the ground. And he does not have the knowledge or the experience to make the judgments. Presidents have to listen and learn. Presidents have to make judgments no matter how popular or unpopular they may be."
Obama, who spoke to reporters on his airplane Wednesday night as he flew home to Chicago, said it's "not relevant" that he hasn't been to Iraq since 2006 and that McCain was using the argument as a diversion.

Obama has 1,981 delegates, to Clinton's 1,780. A total of 2,026 delegates are needed to secure the nomination at present.
Clinton also is counting on a Democratic Party rules committee Saturday to seat the delegations from Michigan and Florida, whose primaries were voided when they were moved into January in violation of party rules.
