Mayor Nutter is still working hard to get state lawmakers to let the city raise its sales tax rate to help balance Philadelphia's cash-starved budget. And Nutter says the lawmakers need not worry about voter anger over a tax hike.
The mayor has been spending a lot of time arm-twisting in Harrisburg to get approval of changes in the pension plan, and the authority to raise the city's sales tax another penny on the dollar.
Nutter was asked if the Philadelphia delegation in Harrisburg is worried about voter backlash if they okay the sales tax hike. Nutter said the delegation could face a worse backlash if the plan is not approved, because he would be forced to make more draconian cuts:
